Another casualty of human metaphysics.

I substitute the word "garbage" for something more colorful.

This list was composed by a small panel of myself and several other enthusiasts. As it is still early in the year, it will be edited as more games are announced worthy of recognition.

My brother has a permanent neurotic, consuming obsession for the Splinter Cell series, so it's one of those things for him that he's going to look forward to all year. haha

I saw the gamescom presentation of Brink and it looked like salisbury steak.
It's supposed to be this cool new multiplayer FPS idea where you play in a sandboxed environment and can do missions to unlock new pieces of clothing to your character, but my friends and me found the presentation very much lacking.

Civilization V.  All other games at the moment are sort of fading into the mist, even the ones I thought I'd be looking forward to (Bad Company 2?  That's coming out now?  Oh... right).  Firaxis, don't you dare disappoint me here!

Saiser - you play 4X stuff?  I'm curious about Sins of a Solar Empire, but it's not on Steam.  Looked into a couple others, but been dissappointed ever since Orion 3.

Saiser - you play 4X stuff?  I'm curious about Sins of a Solar Empire, but it's not on Steam.  Looked into a couple others, but been dissappointed ever since Orion 3.

a blast furnace in which you will be baked into a pie with grubs, toejam, and other unsavory ingredients, 4X is my pet genre.  Don't even get me started on Master of Orion 3... hard to say whether they royally missed the point or just weren't trying.

Sins of a Solar Empire was not a bad game, but not really deserving of all the praise it got.  I judge it as an RTS rather than 4X because... well, it's an RTS.  I don't know what game reviewers are smoking now, but as far as I'm concerned if it's real-time it's not 4X.  Still stuck in quite a few RTS cliches (Good God, why are some developers so slow in realizing how tedious resource-gathering is), and overall is not nearly as deep as it purports itself to be (if you grew up on Master of Orion, Civilization, Alpha Centauri and Call To Power... you'll be disappointed), but still a fair bit above the usual RTS-fare.  Mostly it suffers simply because it's insisting on being classified in a league it's really not fit to compete in, rather than the RTS league in which I would call it quite a dominant game.

I'm a bit sad that it seems a lot of modern "4X" games are a fair bit dumbed-down from their predecessors, and they seem to be in the middle of some unholy fusion with the RTS genre (of which Solar Empire is an example).  But I should stop myself before I keep on rambling off-topic.

Looking forward to Fallout: New Vegas and Sid Meier's Civilization V.

Also, my cousin is playing the Halo Reach Beta, and he says it's very good, so we'll see. Halo 3 and ODST didn't impress me that much.

GameSpot shitcanned Lost Planet 2 but most other reviewers seem to think it's pretty good. I'll have to rent it.
